Got Your Game For Baby Showers?
Well, if you find yourself in the unfortunate position of planning a baby shower, or even worse, being put in charge of the shower games, do not fear. There are some key attributes to successful games that can make your planning easier and maybe, just maybe cause the guests to really enjoy them.
First, the successful attributes of a baby shower game vary; depending on what kind of shower you’re planning. Is it for Mommy, Mommy and Daddy, just relatives…? This could greatly change the nature of successful attributes.
Let’s start with the basics - a shower party with relatives for Mommy. These kinds of parties tend to have ladies of a wide variety of ages. If that is the case, keep it simple. Pre-teen girls and grandmas and great-grandmas will feel more comfortable participating that way.
A grab-bag type game works great with a diverse guest list. Place different baby items, between 5 and 10, in a diaper bag and have each guest reach in and feel the objects. You could use pacifiers, diapers, burp pads, slippers, and brush, whatever you can think of.
Each person then has to write down as many as they can remember. Give the diaper bag, with the items, as a gift to the Mom-to-be, when finished. Just for fun, you may want to put some unusual item, such as a college textbook or catalog or a baseball mitt.
Another twist on the memory game idea is to simply have a tray of these items and have everyone look at it for a minute. In this game, you could put 15-20 items to make it more challenging. Again, whoever can remember the most wins.
If the crowd is a group from the workplace, play group or gym, play off that theme. Have everyone bring a gag gift for the Mom-to-be to deal with being a parent and being at work - tablets to stay awake, fresh ground coffee, eye drops, chocolate ‘just because’…
The most challenging party, but potentially the most fun, is the now popular couple’s party. The challenging part is engaging the men as quickly as possible. No diapering, poem writing games for these guys. Do something that is fast-paced, such as a pre-packaged baby version of a popular game, or something involving music or tools.
Some pre-packaged baby shower games are available online. Play a version of Name-That-Tune by pitting men against women to see who can name the most songs with the word ‘baby’ in them. With tools, the possibilities are endless. Give the Dads a baby doll, a diaper and two pairs of pliers and see how fast they can change a diaper the ‘workbench’ way.
Really, if you know your guest(s) of honor and your other attendees, you can choose a game that will be both engaging and fun. This will help create some great memories even before the bundle of joy arrives! So, order the cake, find some good deli trays, and then sit down and choose from the crazy games that are possible.
