Baby Shower Games: The Diaper Raffle
A baby shower is held to help prepare the mother-to-be for her new baby, and there are plenty of baby shower games to play but none suits this purpose as well as the ‘Diaper Raffle’!
A diaper raffle means that everyone who wishes to be entered in to the raffle brings a pack of diapers with them to the baby shower. This effectively ‘buys’ their raffle ticket and they are then entered in to the draw for a special prize. Of course, a diaper raffle is not a compulsory baby shower game, it is merely an extra that the guests can enter if they choose to do so, and it is important that this is made clear on the invitation.
Diapers are expensive and not everyone may wish to enter the raffle, and the hostess would not wish to appear rude, although most guests would see it as fun way to help the mother-to-be gain an essential item for her baby.
People often struggle with how to ask people to bring a pack of diapers along with them to the baby shower. Perhaps the best way would be to include an additional small piece of card in the invitation suggesting to people that if they wish to be entered in to the raffle then they need to bring along a small pack of diapers.
One pack of diapers equates to one ticket for the prize draw; this also gives people the option to bring multiple packs of diapers if they wish to be entered in to the raffle more than once, helping the mum-to-be stock up on diapers and also increasing their chances of winning!
There are various ways to incorporate a diaper raffle in to your baby shower games. You could give the whole proceedings a ‘diaper theme’, this would involve having invitations shaped like diapers and other diaper based baby shower games. Or it could simply be an additional game to the others that are being played at the shower.
When having a diaper raffle as one of your baby shower games ask everyone who wishes to enter to exchange their pack of diapers for a ticket at the beginning of the evening and ask them to keep hold of the ticket until the end of the party. Before people leave the hostess draws the winner of the diaper raffle from a hat at random.
Of all the baby shower games the diaper raffle is one where the prize needs to be something worth winning; people have effectively paid money to enter this game. Some lovely ideas for prizes include: chocolate, a small basket of toiletries or a voucher for a department store.
